As a former federal law clerk with an impeccable eye for detail, Andrew “Drew” Robertson lends his ample legal knowledge and abilities to KRCL’s commercial litigation and appellate teams.
He handles complex commercial litigation for clients in a variety of industries in both state and federal courts across the country. He has also briefed more than a dozen civil appeals, including mandamus, motions for emergency appellate relief, interlocutory appeals of injunctions and motions to dismiss, and appeals of final judgments. He has handled appellate matters before half of Texas’s fourteen intermediate courts of appeal, as well as in the Supreme Court of Texas, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Drew delves deeply into the nuances of complex legal issues to get to the heart of what the client really cares about. He finds it gratifying to untangle the legal threads, distill the issues into a straightforward and understandable theory of the client’s case, and then craft the best strategy for persuading the court that the facts and applicable law support that theory.
Prior to joining KRCL, Drew spent three years as a briefing attorney to United States District Judge Sam R. Cummings in the Northern District of Texas, where his responsibilities included helping manage the Court’s extensive civil docket, researching legal issues in cases before the Court, and drafting and editing hundreds of opinions and orders. This experience gave him an in-depth understanding of federal rules and procedure, and the firm’s attorneys routinely draw on Drew’s extensive knowledge of that subject to help clients navigate the advantages and potential pitfalls of litigating in federal court.
Drew previously spent time interning for Senator John Cornyn (TX) in the United States Senate and in the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. While earning his cum laude law degree from Texas Tech, Drew was heavily involved in the school’s nationally-ranked moot court program. As a law student, he won a national championship in moot court, earned multiple brief-writing awards, and was inducted to the National Order of Scribes for achievement in legal writing.
Away from the Office
Drew continues his involvement with Texas Tech’s moot court program by serving as a volunteer coach, taking law student teams to competitions across the country each year. A longtime soccer fan and former player, Drew is a passionate Arsenal supporter and an FC Dallas season ticket holder. Drumming and reading, particularly fantasy novels, further help him unwind and unplug from the legal world.
