Jonathan Kropp joined KRCL's litigation team after clerking for the Honorable Chief Judge L. Scott Coogler in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.

As a federal judicial clerk, Jonathan wrote hundreds of opinions and orders resolving issues running the gamut of litigation disputes. Some of those issues required the Court to pioneer precedent on never-before-litigated statutes. Jonathan also mentored three semesters' worth of law students, providing extensive feedback on effective legal writing. These experiences honed his ability to analyze a legal issue objectively yet take a stance and present it persuasively.

During law school, Jonathan sought opportunities to provide hands-on practical experience. That includes multiple semesters in the trial advocacy program. It also includes work in the Entrepreneurship and Nonprofit Clinic, where he advised clients and helped solve real-world business legal problems. His clinic work earned him the CALI Excellence for the Future Award. In his final semester, Jonathan interned at the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Competition, where—in addition to drafting memoranda on complex federal antitrust laws—he attended informational hearings, oral arguments, expert witness interviews, and case strategy meetings.

Before law school, Jonathan served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. As both a Combat Marksmanship Instructor and an Engineer Equipment and Electrical Systems Technician, he shouldered immense responsibility. His time in the military instilled in him a remarkable work ethic and a singular focus that he now brings to bear for his clients: mission accomplishment.

Away From the Office

Jonathan likes to stay active and enjoys new experiences, from learning knitting to jumping from a plane. He also loves comedy and board games, especially Codenames.
