Truth Really is Stranger Than Fiction

North Korea is Hollywood's nemesis.  This past week we learned they were behind the Sony attack that pirated "The Interview".  Proof that politics are central to all things.

I have to wonder though.  How did North Korea orchestrate such an attack in the first place?  Are we now in an era where there are no secrets?  No privacy?  No cause for anticipation?  No surprises except of course for these attacks?  How, for example, can the Academy protect the ballots for the Oscars?  Will those too become an obsession for rogue nations such that there will be a contest  to see who can "out" those results ahead of their time?  Will the sinister of society make these fair game for manipulation and possible corruption?

Now, some are calling for the US to execute a counterattack on North Korea.  While provocative, that is a sophomoric approach in my mind.

We no longer live in an age of innocence when it comes to privacy.  We must address these diabolical elements in a proactive and definitive way--and the way to do so is through conversations and coalitions--not counterattacks.  Consortia, not counterstrikes.  This a serious problem and we need brilliant, cool-minded, informed strategists from all sectors on the solutions.  Politics may have started the episode but it should not be part of its resolution.
